Medicare in Temple Terrace

What Temple Terrace residents should know

Temple Terrace, a city since 1925, sits next to the USF area, which puts some of the region's largest medical centers close by. Moffitt Cancer Center's Magnolia campus and James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital are both near Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. AdventHealth Tampa on Fletcher Avenue has a 24/7 emergency room and the Pepin Heart Institute. HCA Florida also runs a freestanding emergency room in Temple Terrace.

If cancer care is part of your plans, check Moffitt first. Not every Advantage plan includes it, and out-of-network rules differ by plan. A Medicare Supplement works with any provider in the country who accepts Medicare, so the network question goes away. With a Supplement, add a Part D plan and check that each drug is on its list.

Veterans have the Temple Terrace VA Clinic on Temple Terrace Highway, plus the Haley hospital nearby. VA care and Medicare do not bill each other. Many veterans keep Part B so they can see community doctors too. We can walk through how each plan type fits with VA care.

The city runs its own Temple Terrace Public Library on Bullard Parkway, part of the county library cooperative. HART buses serve the area, with a reduced fare for riders who show a Medicare card, and HARTPlus door-to-door rides are available at 813-254-4278. For free one-on-one Medicare counseling, call Florida SHINE at 1-800-963-5337.

Common questions

Medicare questions from Temple Terrace

Is Moffitt in my Medicare Advantage network?
It depends on the plan. Some Advantage plans include Moffitt and some do not. Search for it by name in the plan directory before you enroll. With a Medicare Supplement, any provider who accepts Medicare works.
How does VA care work with Medicare?
They are separate programs. The VA does not bill Medicare, and Medicare does not pay for VA care. Many veterans keep Part B so they can also see doctors outside the VA.
When can I change my Temple Terrace Medicare plan?
Anyone with Medicare can switch during Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7. If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one more change during Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment, January 1 to March 31.
